Airline, Car Rental and Lodging Deals
Airfare Deals & Airline Advice
WebFlyer Deal Watch Great last minute air, hotel and car deals!
CheapTickets CheapTickets helps you locate discount airfare available through airfare consolidators. In my experience, CheapTickets has great airline rates for those times when you need to know the flight times and/or airliner BEFORE you buy.
Expedia (Airline Tickets) Expedia offers some of the better deals and their website is one of the most "user friendly" of all the travel websites.
Hotwire! (Airline Tickets) Hotwire! negotiates with airlines for rights to sell the tickets in return for providing the airlines with lower distribution costs. Hotwire! (not the airlines) sets the price, making money from the sale's profit rather than a commission. With tickets purchased through Hotwire!, the airline identities and flight times aren't revealed until purchase. Hotwire! offers some TERRIFIC AIRLINE RATES to those willing to accept indirect flights or odd flight times. (Personally I prefer "red-eye" flights!)
Orbitz.com Orbitz is joint venture of American, Continental, Delta, Northwest and United Airlines and is a "must see" site to visit when planning to book your flight. Be sure and check out the Special Flight Deals!
SeatGuru.com Airline seating charts. Find out which seats are best and which ones to AVOID!
AirlineQuality.com Airline news, passenger surveys, airline flight reviews & airline quality star rankings.
AirlineMeals.net The world's first website dedicated to nothing but airline food. Passenger reviews and photos of the food served!
Car Rentals
Hotwire (Car Rentals) I've saved BIG BUCKS renting cars with Hotwire. As an example, I reserved a Compact Car with Budget Rent-A-Car for 5 days for my August 2001 trip to Denver for a TOTAL of $132.95! That figure included ALL taxes and fees. That's cheaper by far than even Economy cars for ANY regular car rental rates I could find elsewhere. You don't know which car rental company you're dealing with until you complete your reservation but all the rental companies here are high quality.
Expedia (Car Rentals) If you need to know which rental car agency you're dealing with, then Expedia offers a good way to compare and get the best rate.
Hotel, Motel & Other Lodging Reservations at REDUCED PRICES
Accor Hotels (including Motel 6) I book my reservations at Motel 6 through Accor for my trips to see Oakland A's games in Oakland, California. However, Accor is much more than Motel 6. They have roughly 3,700 hotels and motels in 90 different countries with accommodations ranging from economy motels to luxury hotels!
Hotwire (Hotel Reservations) You don't learn the name of the hotel you're staying at until after you buy. You do, however, get to select the city locale and the quality of the hotel prior to making the reservation. The savings here can be BIG! For my August 2001 trip to Denver, I was able to get a nightly rate of $24 at the "3 Star Rated"Wellesley Inn and Suites in Greenwich Village. This was WAY lower than rack rates!
HotelDiscount.com Rates up to 65% off plus rooms for "sold out" dates.
Orbitz.com (Hotel Reservations) You can often get yourself a great hotel deal through Orbitz!
Lodging.com This site often has great lodging deals.
motelguide.com Describes itself as "the only motel guide on the web for down home mom and pop owned motels." Some bargains can be had but use caution since some of the places listed at this site are what I can only describe as "dives"
Expedia.com (Hotel Reservations) Also has airline, rental car, and cruise deals plus some good package deals.
Candlewood Suites If you book 3 or more consecutive nights they'll give you a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate!
Extended StayAmerica With over 425 locations throughout the U.S. (including StudioPLUS Deluxe Studios & Crossland Economy Studios as well), this is an option definitely worth checking into if you're going to be staying for an extended length of time. One thing I really appreciate here is that the price you're quoted is always the price you pay - no unexpected surcharge or add-on.
Wellesley Inn and Suites I stayed at the Wellesley in Greenwich Village, Colorado for only $24 a night using Hotwire to book it. It was a nice place to stay. It wasn't perfect but it was quite nice and I'll probably stay there again. I'll post some pictures and general impressions soon.
