What are mp3's?

The technology behind mp3's makes it possible to compress recorded sound into a small file about one-twelfth the size of the original while still sounding, to the average ear, just as good as the recording from which it was created. Files compressed this way can be identified by the file extension ".mp3."

These files can then be stored on a PC's hard drive, "burned" onto a blank CD, e-mailed to a friend, posted on a website or loaded onto a personal player.
